Chamber of Horrors, originally conceived as a pilot for a suspense TV show called "House of Wax," was revised into a full-blown theatrical release when it was judged to be too intense for TV. The "Fear Flasher" and "Horror Horn" were William Castle-type gimmicks added to the movie to warn the audience to cover their eyes and ears before the "Four Supreme Fright Points."
As you can see from this clip, the supposedly terrifying "fright points" were pretty tame stuff -- there was no gore and precious little blood to be seen. As a kid, paying good money to see it in the theater, I felt ripped off. Over the years, I've come to appreciate this obscure but well-crafted and well-acted thriller.
