CRUMPET: A VERY BRITISH SEX SYMBOL – a 2005 BBC documentary on the unique British phenomenon of “crumpet” as seen in films (CARRY ON, Bond, Hammer horror, etc.) and TV (ON THE BUSES, ARE YOU BEING SERVED, Benny Hill, etc.) of the 60s and 70s, and including interviews with Caroline Munro, Alexandra Bastedo, Madeline Smith, Valerie Leon, Julie Ege, Ingrid Pitt, Honor Blackman, Shirley Eaton, Carol Cleveland, Wendy Richard, Sally Thomsett, Lynsey De Paul, Dee Dee & Babs from PAN’S PEOPLE, Sue Upton, Linda Lusardi and even Germaine Greer.
Great fun (if you don’t dwell on how many of the interviewees have left us since this was filmed) and obviously too “sexist” for the humourless PC brigade who’ll only upset themselves if they watch (although if they do they’ll see the ladies are more than capable of speaking for themselves, thank you).
