Rango: Interesting, an animated film that's not for kids; unless the tikes have grown up on Hunter S. Thompson, Sergio Leone, Salvador Dali, and the film "Chinatown." Sure, "Rango" has scads of potty humor to keep the children in their seats, but the funny cultural references are the kind of poignant humor with which only the experienced and flawed moviegoer can identify. Our polling indicated that most youngsters found the little chameleon's complex character development boring; chameleon nature is to blend in, "Rango" wants to stand out. Most adults liked that. This divide lowered its potential approval rating. In the film, "Rango" (voice of Johnny Depp) becomes sheriff of Dirt, a desert town peopled by toads, iguanas, armadillos, and moles. This strange and interesting comedy earns our guarded recommendations. Viewers reported: "Dark and thoughtful" ... "My kids were bored silly" ... "My little ones fidgeted all the way through" ... and "Relied on raunchy humor."
